It's October and we have events all month long to celebrate LGBTQ History Month and National Coming Out Week! Don't miss any of the exciting programs coming up.

October 3rd: Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore: Radical Queer Activism and Art

Join acclaimed writer, activist, and public commentator Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore for a reading from her new memoir, The End of San Francisco, and a discussion about her writing and anti-assimilationist queer activism. Books will be available from A Room of One's Own bookstore!

October 7th: Beyond Binaries: Identity and Sexuality with Robyn Ochs

Join speaker, teacher, writer, and activist Robyn Ochs to explore the landscape of sexual orientation and how we "map" sexual orientation. How do we assign labels to our complicated and unique experiences? In this fun and interactive program we explore different experiences of identity, the complexity of attraction, and more.

Celebrate National Coming Out Day and our 10th anniversary as an Office of the Dean of Students with this festive open house! Come get a cupcake, sign our big purple door, and build community with us.

While we're waiting for the parade committee to give us wristbands, we'll be handing out flags, Skittles, and t-shirts! We'll have pizza, pop, snacks, and a lot of fun.
For those who can't meet us at 4:00- we will have a group watching the parade- join us! Meet at the Red Gym at 5:30 and we'll find a spot to cheer together.

Our communities love a good parade and this one is no different. Rainbow shirts, rainbow flags, and rainbow candy will send the message of "Happy National Coming Out Day!" to our fellow Badgers as we traverse down Langdon Street.

October 15th: LGBT Rights in Madison: A History
Tuesday, October 15 6:00-8:00pm | Gordon Dining and Event Center: Symphony Room
Join the CC and University Housing Diversity Programs for dinner and discussion with former State Legislator Dave Clarenbach. Clarenbach will speak to his political career in Madison, which resulted in Wisconsin being the first state to include sexual orientation in its non-discrimination laws.
October 17th: Brown Boi Project

B. Cole and T.J. Jourian join us to discuss The Brown Boi Project, a community of masculine of center womyn, men, two-spirit people, transmen and their allies confronting their own privilege and building a brown boi community. This public talk and Q&A session is ponsored by the Crossroads Initiative, an MSC and LGBT CC collaboration.
October 18th: The State of Transgender
Equality in the United States

Don't miss this lecture by Mara Keisling, Executive Director of the National Center for Transgender Equality. Keisling's talk is the keynote event of the WI Women's Studies LGBTQ Conference: Knowledge in the Making. This talk open to the public!

OPEN: Out Professionals and Executive Network joins the CC to host this career fair for any students who are thinking about their careers, about to graduate, or want to know what's out there!
