Forward Theater Company Presents
“All About Eve” November 7th at the Overture Center
Forward Theater Company, a new non-profit professional theater company based in Madison, will perform a live radio version of a classic story, “All About Eve,” on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at the Overture Center. The production features well-known area actors Colleen Burns, Sarah Day, Michael Herold, James Buske, Karen Moeller, Sam White, and Richard Ganoung. The part of Eve will be played by Molly Rhode, of Milwaukee.
“It is thrilling after months of planning to finally be putting words and performers together on stage,” said Jennifer Uphoff Gray, the company’s artistic director. “The cast we have assembled for this production includes amazing artists from across Southern Wisconsin. We feel blessed that so many wonderful people wanted to be a part of FTC’s debut.”
Managing Director Celia Klehr added, “I am so excited that ‘All About Eve’ will be Forward Theater Company’s first offering. It showcases the bravura acting, theatrical gusto, and general sense of fun we hope to offer our audiences throughout the season.”
The script of “All About Eve” was assembled by Jack Forbes Wilson, a Forward Theater Advisory Company member and the music director for this production. He melded the Lux Radio Theater adaptation with lines from the Oscar-winning film that starred Bette Davis, adding in incidental music, and retaining many of the original commercials for Lux laundry soap.
Full of drama and intrigue, the plot revolves around an aspiring actress, Eve, who is pitied and befriended by a legendary Broadway star. But Eve is soon revealed as a Machiavellian conniver who manipulates others for her own chance at stardom. Performed complete with sound effects and 1950s era costumes, audiences will be treated to both the dramatic “Eve” story and a glimpse of actors “performing” for radio. In fact, in partnership with Wisconsin Public Radio, the show will be rebroadcast on the Old Time Radio Drama program on November 22nd, hosted by Norman Gilliland.
“All About Eve” is sponsored by Michael, Best & Friedrich, LLP. The production is also supported by a grant from the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission. Wisconsin Public Radio is the media sponsor.
Tickets for the performance are $30, or $20 for students and senior citizens, and can be purchased through the Overture Center box office by calling (608) 258-4141 or visiting the web site, www.overturecenter.com.
A special post-show reception following “All About Eve” will be held at Fair Trade Coffee House, at 418 State Street. For an additional $25 per person, audiences will be treated to refreshments and performances by Forward Theater Company artists and friends (including Colleen Burns, Sarah Day, and Jack Forbes Wilson reuniting on scenes from “A…My Name Is Alice”). Tickets may be purchased through the Forward Theater Company web site, www.forwardtheater.com.
