The Breese Terrace Union (BTU), located in the former University Health Services Building at 1552 Old University Ave., will officially open on Monday, February 23, with a week-long Open House. UW students, faculty, staff, Union members and guests are invited to stop by to review the newly remodeled facility weekdays from 8 am to 10 pm. Staff will be on hand to give informal tours during building hours.
The BTU will serve as the transitional headquarters for the Union on the south and west side of campus while Union South is being demolished and the new south campus union is being constructed. The new building is slated to open in Spring 2011.
Breese Terrace Union hours are 8 am to 10 pm weekdays and 10 am to 10 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Times will alter during breaks in the academic calendar. Located at the junction of Breese Terrace and Old University Ave., the BTU is on the Madison Metro bus line for the 1, 2, 3 and 82 routes.
The facility will house student organizations, meeting rooms, a convenience store, a computer lab with DOIT help desk, email terminals, vending machines and a lounge space with a pool and foosball tables and large television screens that can also be used for group study as well as Nintendo Wii and X-Box video games. The two stations will feature 52" LCD HDTVs with integrated gaming systems.
The latest Wii games including Nintendo Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Wii Sports and MTV Rock Band 2 Special Edition as well as feature many X-Box games including Madden 09 and Halo 3. Games can be checked out free of charge; also patrons can bring in their own games if they like.
