The downside of Wynton Marsalis

Harvey Pekar died on Monday, July 12, at 70. He was known for his comic book American Splendor, which chronicled his life as an alienated Cleveland file clerk. The comic had a loyal following and spawned a great 2003 movie adaptation starring Paul Giamatti. Pekar also wrote jazz and literary criticism for a variety of publications, including Isthmus. The following story on jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis was published in Isthmus on April 24, 1998. >More
