Willy Street Co-op plans to open second store in Middleton

The Willy Street Co-op has finally released its long-awaited plans for a second store. The second site chosen is in Middleton, at the corner of University Avenue and Park Street, in a pre-existing shopping center. The store would move into the end space vacated by Walgreens, which built a new free-standing location some blocks east on University Avenue at Branch Street. >More Middleton's Bloom Bake Shop embraces farm-to-table
Makin' whoopies

The windows at Middleton's new Bloom Bake Shop, 1834 Parmenter St., are steamed over -- like a greenhouse! -- from all the baking going on early this cold Thursday morning. A chocolate-smudged Annemarie Spitznagle finishes adding some ingredients to a batter and emerges from behind the counter to talk. >More Madison Music Scene & Heard: DAIS benefit, Wild Heart, The Shtetlblasters, songwriters

A whole world to explore

I'd heard rumors of a "Russian deli" near Knoche's Meat Market onon the west side. I almost passed by Intermarket, at 5317 Old Middleton Rd., nearly signless and hiding under a spacious awning. Turns out it's not a deli; it's an import specialty grocery featuring mostly packaged foods from Eastern Europe and Russia, with plenty of material to experiment with. >More Back to the high school hardwood

Keith Stewart got the job as head coach of Madison West's boys basketball team about a month and a half ago. Taking over for Boyce Hodge (who resigned after an ineligible player forced a state tournament forfeit), Stewart coaches his first home game on Saturday. West will face Madison Memorial, the defending state champs and winner of the last six Big Eight Conference titles. >More Beer Here: Eisphyre from Capital Brewery

Just when the gales of November seem to come early, Capital Brewery takes its warm, malty Autumnal Fire to an entirely different level with the special release of a winter-hardy version named Eisphyre. This intensely malty, yet incredibly smooth doppelbock is capable of taking the chill off. >More Bawdy fun in Middleton Players Theatre's well-executed The Producers

Did it feel like you were at a real Broadway show? Not quite -- the seats were more comfortable, the room felt bigger, and the set and costumes weren't so audaciously ornate. But you did get lost in the performance. >More
