Jennifer O'Leary of the UW-Madison's Space Science and Engineering Center has forwarded some fun facts to know and tell while you wait out today's winter storm.
SSEC instrumentation tech Scott Lindstrom has checked the weather archives and come up with the following stats: The record snowfall for April 11 in Madison is 3.8 inches, set on this date in 1997. That mark is in jeopardy if today's forecasts of four to eight inches or more prove accurate.
O'Leary also sends along a list of the 10 snowiest Aprils on record for Madison, again courtesy of Lindstrom. Topping the list is April of 1973, when a total of 17.4 inches fell on the city. The

With only a trace of snow recorded for Madison through yesterday, the pace of today's storm would have to pick up soon and sustain itself to threaten the April record. But stranger things have happened.
