UP: John and Tashia Morgridge. The former chairman of CISCO Systems and his wife donate $175 million for grants to help public school graduates attend the state's universities or tech schools. John Morgridge is a UW-Madison alumni and his wife a former public school teacher. Their gift will be used to give annual grants of $1,000 to $5,000 for low-income students.

DOWN: Ben Masel. The former U.S. Senate candidate loses his lawsuit against the UW-Madison. Masel was arrested while trying to gather nomination signatures at the Memorial Union to challenge Sen. Herb Kohl in 2006. U.S. District Judge John Shabaz dismisses Masel's lawsuit, saying a university policy limiting political activity on campus is constitutional.
