Today in voter suppression

Postby DCB » Tue Jul 12, 2011 12:44 pm

Apparently, the same people who don't want you to buy condoms also don't want you to vote.
They are robocalling Wisconsin voters to convince them to not vote today:

A new low. I'll bet the Fitzwalkers are saying "why didn't we think of that?"

Today, its the Koch-fueled Americans for Prosperity:
http://www.politico.com/blogs/davidcata ... ml?showall
The fliers, obtained by POLITICO, ask solidly Democratic voters to return ballots for the Aug. 9 election to the city clerk "before Aug. 11."

The GOP - who needs ideas when you have tactics?

Anyone know if there are civil or criminal statutes against this type of fraud? There certainly are statutes against this type of stuff commercially, financially, etc....or is it just impossible to prove who is the individual responsible for said fraud? Stuff like this is easy to dismiss as "cute, nice try", but it goes past the issues of voter fraud IMHO.

Yep, here's the real attempt at voter fraud. Prosecute!

Incidentally, isn't this an interesting tidbit:

Despite WFA’s fierce opposition to gay rights, Appling lives with her longtime companion Diane Westphall in a home the two own together in Watertown. Neither woman has ever married.

The Blogger Who Shall Not be Named pretends to care about voter fraud. What are the chances that he denounces these tactics in his Isthmus-sponsored column?

Are the fake ballots postage paid? Mail them back to cost them some money.

John Nichols writes about Gov. Walker, David Koch and the charges of voter suppression in the Cap Times.

I thought that the use of the mail for illegal purposes is a federal offense, as is the use of the telephone. When my old college roomie got busted for being a drug dealer, they charged her federally for the use of both. What's the difference here, or is it legal to mail or robocall fraudulent info ?

Nice how they blame the incorrect date on the "printer" (DCB's link) or a "typo", but now we're getting reports that the August 11th date is also included in robocalls.

Oh, and turns out the return address for the ballots is actually the Wisconsin Family Action PAC. I wonder if they actually go through the effort of opening up the PO box, or just installed a shredder on the other side of the slot.

Let's hear Blaska's spin on this latest attempt by the GOP to suppress the vote. Does he have the cajones to reply?
