What are the things that puzzle, enrage, delight and tickle you as you go about your life in Madison?
by jjoyce » Mon Feb 18, 2008 9:55 am
You can already see signs of it. People just stream through red lights, thinking they're excused because if they stop, they'll never get started. Pedestrians, for some reason, just leap out into traffic over snowbanks evidently hoping people will just swerve to avoid them or something.
Neighbors who bust out the snowblowers and clear up to the property line, but not an inch over, return to their homes while others toil, hoping to clear the rubble left behind by the plows. Four-wheel drive vehicles narrowly avoid standard cars as they weave in and out of traffic.
What's next?

Fights in the stores over the last loaf of bread.
Don't laugh, I saw it happen when I was living in another state where they didn't get snow too often. People were losing it.

And like a bad acid trip, it will all evaporate when the snow melts. People will wake up in mid-melt to ask themselves, "What the fuck are we fighting over? Dude, I'm so sorry!"

"What's next?"
Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria.

Who also think that since there is two lane traffic towards downtown in the morning on Atwood/Willy during decent weather that the same holds true when there is a badly ice-rutted half lane now. So they slide into the main lane, fight back to the right one, narrowly miss a garbage cart sticking into the road and slide over once again.
Actually, the vehicle doesn't matter. Assholes drive most anything with wheels.

Why, an "Isthmus" article complaining about neglected socialism of course.
How many left wing desk jockeys and social managers were out shoveling someone else's driveway in the name of socialism this weekend? None I suspect.

Saturday I asked the Sentry Hilldale butcher for a chuck eye roast. They'd already sold out, he said, "because of the storm that's coming." There was a run on chuck eye roasts?

Can't speak for my fellow "Isthmus" desk jockeys, but I spent the weekend watching Auntie Mame. In the name of socialism.

I couldn't tear myself away from reading Das Kapital to shovel my own driveway, much less my neighbor's.

I hope you stuck to volume one. No one reads volume two.

They really should.
That's where all the sex scenes are.

But there isn't a dry eye in the house at the end of Volume Three - where Friedrich Engels makes peace with his father Lord Vader after rescuing Karl Marx from Jabba the Hut. Too many Ewoks, but a great film nonetheless.

Thanks for the spoiler. After I camped out for 12 hours at Barnes and Noble for the midnight sale of Volume Three. Asshole.

Don't worry. There's already rumors on the Internet that all three volumes are going to be remastered and updated to include a LEED-certified coal mill and an entire race of overly bureaucratic robber barons.
