TDPF rebirth

Postby bdog » Tue Jan 31, 2012 9:56 am

Sno's post about her deactivated account (she created a brand new one as a stop-gap) got me to thinking.

How would people feel about a full re-rack of TDPF?

Everyone's account gets deleted and we all have to sign up again (preferably with new names).

Personally I would love it. It would stop a lot of the bickering, at least for a while. And the people who have been here forever would have a new found freedom I think. Less worry about contradicting yourself on something you posted 5 or 10 years ago.

That would not be within the spirit of things Ned.

Perhaps JJ could take names like that (anything that has > 5000 posts?) out of play.

That was also the first person I thought of when I read the opening post.

How many different times has that guy ran away after getting his butt handed to him, only to rebirth himself under a different name a few weeks later?

So I'm not allowed to decide that I don't really like Jack Johnson?

I'll play, but only if everyone is required to have the same name. That should cut down on a lot of the bickering.

I was never a fan of CS / UL's "style", but he's number 1 on my list of "smartest forons" because he realized it wasn't worth it, got out, and stayed out.

No, he kept coming back under different names.

Best idea yet.

We might actually reply to the content instead of just hating on some screen name. I've often wondered why comments sections don't dispense with names altogether, leaving them visible only to the administrator so abusers' accounts can be moderated or cancelled.

Oh fer chrissakes, it's a discussion forum, not the insurance industry. You pop in you pop out. I have my afternoon coffee, tap out a post, go do something else. It's just entertainment.

True enough; I've been working on that (see: Jimmy and Earl vs. the beaver-thing).

Narco is a great example of someone who stays above all this stuff. But he is a 1%er among Forons.

Five Stages of observed online group interaction experience:

1. Discover/Read
2. Post
3. Massive Post/Ownership
4. Riot/Leave
5. Accept (sometimes, if not, goto 3.)

I got stuck at #2. I just never get too worked up about anything unless the topic involves beer or hockey.

I don't feel strongly about it. I wonder if we could change our names but keep our post count. Not a deal-breaker, just my preference. I'd thought of a couple of different possible names before this subject even came up, so, worth a try. What harm could it do? If a troll or jerk changes their name, it will probably take maybe the first two sentences of their first new post for veteran Forons to identify the poster as such.
