best "bribes" for radio promo kits- snack cakes?

Postby Scott » Mon Dec 28, 2009 7:40 pm

So, I have to drop off some CDs at WORT and WSUM over the next few days, and was trying to think of something that might help the Cutouts stand out from the usual crop of promo pablum flooding our fair DJ's mailboxes . I was thinkin' maybe Little Debbie Swiss Cake Rolls taped to our promo stuff might do the trick, but wonder if that might get crushed and turned to goo rather than be a tasty incentive.
Right- so- any thoughts? What should I shove in the mailbox? (Be nice, now, kids.) Anyone else have ideas that have worked in the past? Any radio hosts care to chime in?

WKRP taught me that all DJs like drugs, but only the sleazy ones will be open to bribery.

Funny, the drummer for my band said the same thing...

That would probably work for the students at WSUM, but for WORT you better go with something fair trade/all natural/organic.

And seriously for both of those stations, focus on a program or specific dj as what each station plays really varies from day to day or even hour to hour. WSUM has a show (on Sundays?) that features local bands playing live in the studio.

hmmm... perhaps I'll go with that Willy St Coop seitan. The Cutouts are seitan's music, after all.

Might leave a stain on the promo kit, though.

My advice is find a band that actually had their bands CD reviewed by the Isthmus and find out what they included with their promo kits because everybody knows it takes some heavy duty bribes to get that done. Then take that item or items or uhem services to the DJ of your choice and you should have it made!
