Sources claimed that the poor performance of Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway and the stoppage of work on the Aliens title were contributing factors to the layoffs.
Gearbox insists that Aliens: Colonial Marines is still on, and refute rumours that development has been halted or that the game has been canned. The only thing for sure is that it's release date has been delayed.
Other rumours have been that Sega pulled funding for the project and were seeking a new developer, though that hasn't been officially confirmed.
Sega then came out saying that their new Alien Vs Predator game (to be released in 2010) will be the first
of their Aliens game to be released, meaning Aliens: Colonial Marines got pushed to the back of the line. This didn't make sense to all awaiting Aliens: Colonial Marines, since ACM was first announced in 2006 and development has been ongoing when this new Aliens Vs Predator game has just been announced.
