Trying to find restaurant seating without a restaurant! HELP

Postby The Center Square » Mon Feb 26, 2007 10:01 am

This might be a stretch for the forummunity here, but I'm about to give up on this, and thought I'd ask around to internet folks before packing it in.

I've been trying to find a single restaurant (style) booth to buy for personal use.

Not the crappy nooks they have at Target/Shop-KO, but a better built one with nicer wood, padded vinyl seats, and a decent table. You know, a standard family restaurant one. There's companies in Chicago that will do one-offs, but it's just too expensive and geared towards 'parade-of-homes-types'. I'm more of a 'slightly used' kind of consumer.
I mean, what happens to the booths at all the restaurants that go under. How does one get cued into that? Is there an retail auction circuit I'm unaware of?
Any other avenues for tracking these down?
Any insight is appreciated.

Have you tried:

Ebay, craigslist, madison stuff exchange, the Re-store, auction listings in newspapers?

Yea, I check in on most of those on a semi-regular basis. Granted, auctions in the paper are usually over looked by me-I've had bad luck with those in the past.
I wasn't trying to make this sound like a 'Booth wanted' ad.
I just thought that there has to be some circuit for ex-BIz's fixtures to get resold that I'm missing.
I mean, where the heck did all of the stuff in Bevs go before it got leveled?
Is all that stuff in that old Steak and Shake by East Towne just sitting in there rotting?

I WISH re store would end up with those. That'd rule.
Maybe I'll build one out of the 2000 doors they have there.

I'd be interested in what Frank Booth has to say.

Restaurants that go under have auctions, and stuff is usually sold together, meaning you couldn't buy one booth. Other wise the stuff is sold by word of mouth, restaurant to restaurant or a used equipment company will buy it and pick it up.

If you are interested I would call Gus at Capital Equipment. He has like 6 buildings full of old restaurant junk you can look at, if he returns your call. Try Kavannah's or Kessinechs but they don't carry much used stuff these days.

Bev's sold most of their stuff by word of mouth but most of it went down with the building, like those cool stools...yeah, what a waste.

Red Pepper, full of equipment and furniture, torn down with everything inside.

When you see a place close, call and ask, they might just give it to you.
