Happened to be in Maple Bluff on Halloween around 6 pm. Turning in to the 'hood from Sherman, past the cop shop/fire department I was confronted by hordes of costumed kids, mobs of ambling parents, gangs of trick-or-treaters, people wandering into or across the road, lines at the front doors of nearly every single house up and down both sides of the street. This wasn't the usual crowd of neighborhood kids hitting up next-door neighbors for tricks or treats, this was a massive mobilization with hundreds, nee thousands of boots on the ground. I don't know where they parked the buses. I am sure the MBPD was directing traffic somewhere but they too were lost in the crowd. How to account for this astonishing turnout of trickertreaters? It was plainly evident these folks were not locals. Did they assume that cake-eaters in the Bluff would be redistributing the wealth handing out full-size Snickers and dropping Krugerrands into UNICEF boxes?
