In Boy Scouts, we learned semaphore. Who ever typed up the master for the Mimeograph machine (which had only recently replaced the Ditto machine), mis-keyed and indicated that a certain flag position was for "end of world" rather than "end of word." We all retired to our tents thinking that, being the early Cold War, that was an important flag signal to know.

I don't know if more surprised that telegrams still exist or sad that I never took the time to send on.

When do you suppose they'll turn off all the fax machines?


I saw this headline somewhere today, and I thought that's interesting.
I did not look at it.
Now, having looked, I have to say that the only thing that helps me with this story is DetrItus's comment.
So much old tech is embedded in the "new" tech.
