Daylight Savings time.

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it fits here

Daylight Savings time.

Postby rabble » Sat Oct 31, 2009 8:04 pm

When told the reason for daylight saving time the old Indian said…
‘Only a white man would believe that you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and have a longer blanket.’

I don't know where that came from and I doubt it's from a Native American but I like it.

Why not just adjust the clocks 1/2 hour? Then put the issue in the history books.

In the most depressing time of year, when sunlight is one thing that can give your mood a boost, they take away an hour of it. Sure, it's at the other end but I think way more people could benefit from it in the afternoon. I lose an hour of daylight work time too. Just my opinion of course, I'm sure other people have legitimate reasons for feeling different. You can go fuck yourself if you do......but you're entitled to your own misguided thoughts.

My dad and stepmom are retired in Arizona. I asked them about their state not observing DST. She said they had enough damn sunshine already.

I've had more than one job where after DST went into effect, I didn't see the sun till Saturday morning. I understand how you feel. We didn't get sick pay till the third sick day at a couple of them, and a couple times a winter I'd call in sick anyway just because I wanted to see the sun.

Why in the hell do we have daylight savings time anyway? isn't this a leftover from WWII? Let's just stick to daylight time year-round

They sell DST as some sort of money maker for business, an energy saver, or whatever. Not once do they ever factor in the cost of disrupting the sleep patterns of 300 million people.

If it isn't set back in the fall, children would have to walk to school in the dark.

Whose kids walk to school in Wisconsin when it's below zero outside?

Why not change the time school starts?

I think cmb was saying that we shouldn't have DST at all. Stick to normal daylight and quit screwing with our sleep with your archaic practices.

As for the children...they're just changing the time back to what it was supposed to be all along. Helping poor Caleb waiting in the dark, windy cold for the bus was just an afterthought to setting things right again.

I dunno. I like my hour of sleep in the spring just as much as i like it in the fall. And i resent people fucking with it for no apparent benefit.

I enjoy the extra daylight for gardening and enjoying the outdoors, after work. Now that it's cold and dark, I'm in the soup making and garden catalog mode.

Us moms watched the kids whether it was light or dark!
