Madison Myths/Lore

What are the things that puzzle, enrage, delight and tickle you as you go about your life in Madison?

Madison Myths/Lore

Postby Tauras95 » Sat Jun 26, 2010 9:17 am

I'm looking for a page about local Madison Folklore. I remember seeing it quite awhile ago. (a year or so) It was information like "if you hear a local talk about the Duck Pond, they are referring to the Mallards baseball team stadium."

Basically local people & places that are "famous" to those folks who grew up here or adopted Madison as their hometown. Ideas?? Thanks!!

Thanks so much! This is exactly the page I was talking about! My sis & daughter are doing the Great Urban Race right now. Go team Naughty & Nice. I'm learning a bit more about Madison just being their look up person.

Thanks again!

I was born and raised in Madison and never heard of any Duck Pond other than the one by Nakoma Road where it turns into Monroe Street.

You're off by 14 years. But one thing's for sure: nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

Oon my commute up the Hell of Park Street there is a new caracter.
Always wearing navy pants with gold military stripes up the side. always wearing a shiny gold plastic football/military helmet. Never seen for more than a few seconds, as he dodges into alleyways and doorways.

Please, someone tell me he isn't a hallucination.

You saw right. I don't know all the details. I'm guessing maybe he has seizures, and he does live in a group home. At least he's harmless and very respectful on the bus. That's more than I can say for too many.

I saw an old man in a pink tutu, in this past dead of winter, on a crowded bus. There were too many witnesses to imagine.

This is what I have always loved about Madison. The sightings of random weirdness.

1414 S. Park, in between the Labor Temple and the Army Reserve building. It's got kind of a fake brick and colonial exterior. Looks like it used to be a pancake place or supper club.

I thought the baseball team was the Muskies? When did they change their name?

Cool Optical Illusion:
This was mentioned years ago on the TDP.
O'Sheridan St off Lakeside
Drive north and watch the optical illusion of the Capitol getting smaller as you get closer. It used to be more pronounced before the court building on Hamilton was built.
