What are the things that puzzle, enrage, delight and tickle you as you go about your life in Madison?

I don't get why there would be a USED compost bag near the checkout. Do people buy compost from Willy co-op, or bring it in? That just seems like it would be a health code violation.

I'm guessing that it was the Regent St. Co-op, actually. But I'm kind of gobsmacked that she's never had this experience before. I think she's lived there for quite a while. (For what it's worth, although I come from a composting family, I'd be kind of surprised at a compost bag right at the register, too.)
The comments, however, are much more telling. She hates co-ops and prefers a "crisply commercial" transaction. Boo fuckin' hoo. God forbid you have to engage with your neighbors.
Next time, hon, just go to the gas station on Walnut and spare us your gaping incredulity at real life.

Title edited to reflect that there's more than one food coop in Madison.

Proper grammar dictates the spelling of single-digit whole numbers. F-I-V-E.

That's a question of style, not grammar. Style preferences vary.

Here's my impression of the AA commenters:
"YOU USED 'GAPING' IN A CONTEXT THAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND. I'VE NEVER BEEN SO ANGRY!"

No, it's a rule of grammar.

I'm pro-butter. Just sayin'.
Keeping a compost bag next to the check out register does seem unsanitary. Not sure why though. Garbage cans are welcome. Why not just have a closed lid compost container instead? I think people would think twice before reaching into that.
Gaping bloggery. Uck.

True, if by grammar you mean style and by rule you mean preference.

Did you happen to work for the Clinton administration at some point?

If you scroll down you can see a picture that this woman posted of herself. Given that she is a pasty bloated fat person it is no wonder that Ann Althouse feels out of place at a food co-op. I bet she was suffering from trans-fats withdrawal. Quick! Get that woman a donut!

I don't think Ken is trying to dodge any issues here Flanders - I think he's saying you're wrong. That being said, I still can't believe so many people read her dumb blog.
