This is a big deal, no? Wasn't Harry Truman the last sitting president to visit Madison? Isn't that kind of brutal... that the state capitol doesn't merit more visits from the head of state?

I mean, there was never any question that Bush wasn't going to show, but in 8 years Clinton couldn't swing by? Shalala couldn't make something happen?

Prior to Truman, I believe Teddy Roosevelt was the last sitting president to visit our humble little burg.

Teddy was also the first president to fly in an aircraft. A Wright Flyer in 1910. I’m sure he didn’t fly to Madison, though. Undoubtedly came by rail. Mayor Dave would be so proud.
