And it makes it's last move:
John Doe probe of Scott Walker office closed with no new charges

Sorry for anyone who got their hopes up.

At one point, Walker was subpoenaed to testify in the case against Rindfleisch, but she struck a deal with prosecutors, keeping Walker off the witness stand. Several top current and former Walker aides had received immunity from criminal prosecution in the probe, including spokesman Cullen Werwie, Milwaukee County spokeswoman Fran McLaughlin, Walker fundraiser and Milwaukee County Republican Party official Rose Ann Dieck and Milwaukee attorney David Halbrooks.

"That Scott Walker avoided prosecution is no feather in his cap," Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesman Graeme Zielinski said. "He clearly was connected to criminal activity, and he spent a half million dollars, through his unprecedented criminal defense fund, to waylay charges. The crimes convicted flow directly from Scott Walker's belief that he is above the law."

The Assembly's top Democrat, Peter Barca, D-Kenosha, called on Walker to "finally take responsibility for the criminal activity that happened on his watch."

"While the governor was not charged, he must make a statement accepting responsibility for the people he trusted, hired and supervised and apologize to the taxpayers, particularly the veterans, who were cheated," Barca said.

Out of the left oozed a mixture of disappointment, bitterness and indignation.

I look forward to the DA opening an investigation into Walker's defense fund on Monday.

None of Walker's cronies/underlings would flip on him, so they had no evidence. Who is surprised by this? However, people like Scott Walker think they are invincible, and that almost always comes back to bite them in the ass. He will march on, like the righteously indignant Christian soldier that he is, to a likely presidential run, where he will be skewered by the national media in ways only Sarah Palin gets tacit self pleasure from...and then the real story will come out.

It sure was slow. Dang John Doe took three years to get done. I never thought they'd indict Walker personally, but I was very interested in the quality of staff he surrounds himself with as shown by the convictions secured following the investigation. The quality of other staff he's picked follow the same pattern, and may be more important to taxpayers. For example, how can you loan millions of dollars to "develop" businesses and not even have a mechanism for keeping track of the payments on the debt? The people of this state deserve better, in every instance. We're turning into some combination of Mississippi and New Jersey.

I don't know what you're complaining about. Here's what *I* see to complain about: ongoing disregard for basic administrative and business principles.

And I think david cohen has a good point. Nobody would flip on him, and the most likely reason for that is money. He collected this giant defense fund, if you remember. Keep in mind the possibility it didn't all wind up in the pockets of his lawyers. I'm not expecting to find out any time soon, but in these days when everybody's a reporter and everybody's a blogger, secrets are hard to keep.

Ooh... the real story. Yeah, that's the ticket - the story about his missing college degree and about how he's a secret free marketist and a Reaganite. Go get that story, tiger.

Walker apologists are crying victory because he wasn't indicted, even though plenty of his underlings were either found guilty or got immunity for their secret testamony. Nixon also was never indicted. There is a reason some refer to this affair as Walkergate.

I see what you mean, Hen V - you're saying John Chisholm, the DA, is in on the cover-up? He's part of the conspiracy?

Hey Henry, thanks for a super supper tonight. From The Scientific American:

"Scientists who study schadenfreude are learning that this secret happiness at another person’s loss has biological underpinnings. The feeling registers in the brain as a distinct form of pleasure, a satisfaction comparable to that of eating a good meal."
