Obvious is it not? Zach is truly a republi-con.

Nice guy, shit, I'm not even sure about that.

Say Minty Flush, considering your one-eyed definition, wouldn't it be more challenging to find a closet Moderate? I mean PDs and other various revivalists of the 60's communal fantasy - now isolated to 4 square blocks in San Francisco, two apartments in Greenwich Village and the isthmus of Madison - find it fashionable to declare that they exclusively are the real Democrats.

Surely there must be someone in the vast expanse between ââ?¬Å?yourââ?¬? Democrats and the Prez that we could identify and not revile.

Nice try, but you havent stolen my party yet.

Go Edwards!

Moderates are neither in the closet nor difficult to find. The split-the-difference thing is their whole raison d'etr©, and it ain't like they're shy about boasting of their supposed breadth of appeal, electability, etc.

Guess you don't have much interaction with PDers, who'd sooner be affiliated with the Branch Davidians than with the Dems. Not to kill the fun of your misinformed generalizations or anything.

Given the real estate to which you confine progressives, how do you suppose people like Feingold, Baldwin, Barney Frank, Ted Kennedy, Bernie Sanders, Sheila Jackson-Lee, Barbara Boxer, etc. keep getting elected?

Sure. Susan Collins, Christie Todd-Whitman, John Chafee, Rudy Giuliani, Olympia Snowe...there are all kinds of possibilities.

I'm under no illusion that I have. I just don't want to be forced to choose between Pepsi and Coke for the rest of my life. Sometime I might wanna have a beer, or a bottle of water. Something that tastes a little different.

If he wins SC & Missouri...he might.

We actually agree on him. He'd be a good candidate.

Just hadn't used my lumping muscle in a few days. Good to know it still works. Good to know also that, despite the temp, that the fish are still biting.

Got me there . . . maybe I am more liberal than I thought since my recent head injury, but I voted for Russ and Tammy and would if I lived in the right place vote for Ted, Barney and the Boxer Babe. I'm not enough of a political junkie to say about the two others you mention.

A painful reexamination of my earlier slings and arrows would reveal that my non-republican directed hostility is mostly for the social engineering done by the majority on the Common Council. They are not so much progressive as they are socialists who spend too much of my tax dollar on things best left undone or done by a more appropriate level of government. And you do Feingold, Baldwin, Barney Frank, Ted Kennedy, and, Barbara Boxer a disservice to put them any closer than on the same planet with the local yokels.

I could've sworn I just heard that very line elsewhere. :D

So, in the case of affordable housing, which would be your preference? Leave it "undone" and not worry about whether Madisonians a priced out of their own community? Or kick this local issue up to the state or feds, and wait for the largesse to start rolling in?

Hmmmmm. In the interests of party unity going into this election year, I think I'll do my part by reconsidering a few of the adjectives I applied to you in that broadside two weeks back.

I hereby withdraw the descriptions of Floyd as a "gibbering idiot" and a "craven little troll". I also would like to amend my reference to his point of view, which should have been described as "mistaken" rather than "wildly mistaken".

Did I already say that? My short-term cells ain't what they used to be. Sorry if I am being redundant. Sorry if I am being redundant. I have also been distracted by Daisy who obviously has it all over you in the smarts department.

You have to ask? Undone, of course. Alder Compton's multilist stats should have brought the need for CC intervention into question.

We protect our weakest, sure. We cannot tolerate homelessness and hunger. But then the provision of things beyond basic needs should largely be the result of a sound economic policy that results in a sound economy. Not trickle down, but what we had under Slick Willy.

Thanks, but like the president I stand by all of my previous misstatements.

Yeah, it's sort of a Madison Only "big bang" theory. Totally compatible with the black hole concept.

You mean her little I-have-here-in-my-hand-a-list tribute to Joe McCarthy?

Nah. The idea of using $160k as the benchmark for "affordable" is dubious, if she'd had the facts on her side they would have become available during the process, not as a last-minute Hail Mary pass minutes before passage. Even your favorite alder wouldn't have voted against it based on Compton's last act of desperation.

One thing that is "brought into question," however, is the Confederate Alder's political career. There will be more than one good candidate opposing her next year, and it's altogether possible she does a Bauman and doesn't even make it through the primary.

I'm confused, isn't Brandon a member of the dane county dems executive board? I thought I read that in the Cap Times.

You're confused? What about Brandon? He thought he was going to be leading a charge of moderate Dems. Turned around and nobody was there. They had all been rezoned Republican by the Common Council.

And stop the reading the Crap Times . . . you'll go blind in your right eye.

While Compton's presentations can make me want to set my hair on fire after the first eight or ten hours, Markle, Markel, Mackerel or whatever makes me want to shove a decomposing squirrel down his throat after only a few seconds

Guess we each have our favorites.

As a compassionate gesture to our fellow forons, let's both agree to drop the IZ thing. Sorry I brought it up again.

On another subject, is it my imagination or is Minty Fresh the name or marketing slogan for a feminine hygiene product? I know it sounds familiar.
