Karben 4 Brewing

Postby gargantua » Sat Dec 29, 2012 1:33 pm

Karben 4 had their soft opening Friday night. We rolled up around 7 and the place (the former Ale Asylum) was packed. I'm wondering what others thought of the beer. I had the Block Party, which is an amber ale. It was true to style, no obvious defects, but it just seemed....ordinary. My companions tried their other two offerings, Night Call, a porter, and a rye APA style. Their verdict was the same....the beers were OK.

Nothing wrong with OK, but nothing to get excited about either. It's their first batch, so I plan to wait a couple of months and check back in. I hope they do well.

I wonder if Karben 4 is the brewery looking to hire a brew master on C-List... and very enthusiastically.

Or, it could be Blair Street Brew... how many breweries can Madison support, I wonder..?

I too was at the opening Friday and thought all 3 of the beers were great. Am really looking forward to the next 3 coming out in January. I also loved the much needed changes they have made to the taproom. Went on Ryan's tour and was excited about his passion for brewing. Good things happening here. :D

Other than for enlarging the bar area, I didn't much care for the changes to the taproom. But not everyone has the same tastes in decor. It is certainly functional, I'll give it that.

what about food? Do they have anything more than the blah bar apps that Ale Asylum used to serve when they were there?

I've ran out of enthusiasm for any more breweries. Good luck to them.
