Always a tough question. I will say "Gretchen Goes to Nebraska" by King's X. (Although I was sorely tempted to say Lola vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround by the Kinks)

Alright, this is going to be hard, but you took the time to reply, so I will listen to it. Metal and Country are my least favorites. I know quite a bit of Tom Waits, but not that album. I have not heard of Ugly Casanova. Any tips on what I should be appreciating would be appreciated.

Exile on Main Street will be hard as well. I lump the Stones with everyone, including the Beatles. I do like Exile in Guyville.

As far as favorite albums go, aren't all of your favorite albums those you had to listen to at least 300 times? ipods are missing out being stuck flipping over the same cassette tape over and over and over.

I will work my way down the list. I will send a post card. I love you.

"Reign in Blood" is the best thrash metal album ever of all time in the whole world. Clocking in at right around 30 minutes, the time will fly. Try to find the remastered one so you get Slayer's twice-as-fast remake of their own song, "Aggressive Perfector."

"Mule Variations" is by far my favorite Tom Waits. Came out in the late 90s.

Ugly Casanova is a side project by the lead singer of Modest Mouse. Only a couple years new.

John Hiatt's Walk On - desert island disk - that would be way up there. "Exile..." is way up there, too.

Quick story about Mule Variations. About eight years ago a fellow musician buddy hands me a burned copy of Mule. "It's Tom Waits' latest. You might like it."

So the wife and I are sitting in front of the patio on Labor Day mellowing out with some adult beverages, listening to some Hiatt, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt in the cd changer and I had put Mule in the queue thinking it'll fit right in. Some piano, stand-up bass, stories about cocktail waitresses/small time criminals, etc. So, what - four hours into our mellowing? - here comes "Big in Japan." That woke us up! Liked it a lot. Just not what we were expecting.

I am listening to Slayer again as I type. It reminds me a bit of the hardcore of my youth. Why did we have to hate each other so much when a lot of the music was similar? It does satisfy. I do not pay much attention to lyrics, but Satan caught my ear more than once. I guess not so much it bothered me, more it seemed gimmicky. I like speed.

Tom Waits...I think I need to listen to it more. One track off of there got a lot of airtime and really turned me off. I know there is probably more to it all, but I am kind of over Tom Waits. Truly when the first time I heard him it was groundbreaking. (Hmm makes me want to start new thread)

This is coming out a lot more negative than I intended, thank you again for posting.

I need to get Casanova next. I have Exile and the Allman Brothers album. I will set them up in the playlist.

Two people have made unsolicited for confessions of PCP use to me in my lifetime. Both were really big into Captain Beefheart.

I seem to recall Beavis and Butthead watching one of his videos. I think their comment was something along the lines of "this guy sings good, but he's sure a lousy songwriter".
