December Giraffes mp3 and DVD holiday sale

Postby charliedon'tsurf » Tue Dec 02, 2008 7:06 pm

For holidays we at Crustacean Records are joining in the spirit of giving. To that end we are giving away one last Giraffes mp3 off the new album, Prime Motivator which came out on 11/11. It is “The Power of Fatherhood” which fully showcases the band’s appealing excursions into lounge metal because absolute trust keeps us going in the right direction. You can download the track throughout the entire month of December by clicking on the mp3 of the month button in the upper left corner of the Crustacean Records homepage, by going to the Crustacean music page or at the Crustacean myspace.

Also we are having a holiday sale on the double DVD set we put out this summer entitled, Drown Out the Daylights, for only $12. The main feature is a professionally made 2.5 hour movie featuring performances and interviews by Screamin’ Cyn Cyn & The Pons, Ouija Radio, The Gusto, Droids Attack, Things Fall Apart, John Kruth, Drunk Drivers, Awesome Snakes, The Skintones and Mad Trucker Gone Mad. There is another 2.5 hours of extra footage from additional bands like Peelander-Z, Birthday Suits, Uncle Eddie, Mucky Pup, American Death, Ladybeard and Shotdown. They make a great gift and an extensive primer to the Midwest rock scene for only $12. You can read some reviews and press about the DVD set here and here.

New Mad Trucker mp3 for January 2009

Postby charliedon'tsurf » Sun Jan 04, 2009 6:01 pm

To start 2009 we are giving away a brand new and topical track from Mad Trucker Gone Mad entitled "The Land of the Fee". From the desk of Del Monte Carlo, founder, guitarist and singer for Mad Trucker Gone Mad:

The song “Land of the Fee” was written in April of 2007 under the tongue and cheek working title “Magical Happy Land”, but we couldn’t figure out an arrangement so it just kind of bounced around from rehearsal to rehearsal and never got off the ground. The song is sung from the point of view of the fee lusting re-financier, shady car dealer, unscrupulous mortgage broker, title and payday loaner or any of the multitudes of greed driven quasi-criminal individuals that have made our country what it is today. Broke. The hero of the song isn’t the only villain. It’s the foolish consumer, living on credit cards, cash advances, home equity loans, etc. Living well beyond their means, they don’t know it yet, but are on their way to default, foreclosure, and repossession. Towards the end of the summer of 2008 when financial giants started dropping like flies and major industries were going belly up, the timing was perfect to put this song together and record it. Mark at DNA Studios did a great job engineering and helping produce this song. We’re very happy with the way it turned out.

You can save or listen to the mp3 by clicking on the button below.

Or from the Crustacean Records music page and once Rupert Murdoch's shit stops crashing out and finally lets me add the new song to the Crustacean Records myspace you will be able to get it there as well.

Von Ehrics "Loaded All Day" free mp3 for March

Postby charliedon'tsurf » Sun Mar 01, 2009 10:13 am

For the month of March Crustacean Records offers another free mp3 off The Von Ehrics Loaded coming out Tuesday March 24th. I say this as a Von Ehrics fan rather than a shill, but the new VE record is their finest to date and the first two albums they put out were both tough acts to follow. Nine new original songs and two covers ("Year of Living Dangerously" by Steve Earle and "Old Chunk of Coal" by Billy Joe Shaver) and featuring guest appearances by Clayton Mills of Dixie Witch, Jake Middlefinger of Ghoutown and Loren Wollerman of Whore Du Jour. 80% of the material is charged punk rock metal country and western while a couple of the songs slow it down and reveal the bands strong roots in the gospel, blues and country from their Texas upbringing. The song we are giving away for the month of March is "Loaded All Day" which is about the standout radio single and what is a strong record to being with. We hope you like it as much as we at Crustacean do.

You can save or listen to the mp3 by clicking on the button below.

Or from the Crustacean Records music page and the Crustacean Records myspace.

Loaded will be available for purchase at stores in Madison and across the country beginning on March 24th typically for $11.99. Or we are going to have a special websale on Loaded running from Tuesday the 17th until Monday the 23rd where you can order the CD for only $10 postpaid the week before the record comes out and have it shipped 1st class via USPS that week. I'll have it set up and ready for order from the Crustacean catalog no later than 12:01 AM on March 17th and will likely bump this thread before as a reminder. It will go up to our usual webstore price of $12 on and after the official retail release date on March 24th.

The Von Ehrics will be in Madison to play their official Wisconsin CD release party at the Frequency on Saturday April 18th. It is an early happy hour show with doors opening 5 PM with The Gusto and The Skintones opening up. The Von Ehrics take the stage around 7:30. After that we are heading down to the Wisco for more drinking and the official Von Ehrics CD release afterparty featuring The Warhawks and one more band TBA and get fucking shitcanned until bar close.

That is an awesome song. I'm stoked about the new Von Ehrics and I'm super stoked for the release show.

The pre-sale is a cool idea - I'll be all over that come the 17th.

If you want to hear more songs off of Loaded you have two options on the internet.

First the recently set up page on CD Baby where you can hear :30 clips from all the songs.

Second it already is available from the iTunes store, but with one problem. For some reasons the iTunes version left the final track off the release. It is one of those final tracks with a song, several minutes of silence and then the sorta kinda secret last track. We are thinking iTunes might not like tracks with long bouts of silence. We are working on correcting that.

I don't know who you are, but if you can figure out who I am at the release show you should introduce yourself. I have noticed from your posts that you seem to be an avid supporter of the little record label my friends and I put a lot of time and love into. I'd like to buy you a beer.

For our mp3 of the month we are giving away a song off Droids Attack's new album Must Destroy which was just released on February 2nd. It is the song "Koko Beware" and the band gave us an insight to the genesis of it.

Koko was the last song we wrote for the album. Nate happened to have an old wrestling magazine with him in the studio while we were demo-ing it and as we were skimmed through it we were cracking some jokes. Contemplating on these guys' post glory days, speculating on where their illustrious careers have taken them in life. It's slightly less funny then it is dark and depressing, so that is the tone we took with it. Koko B. Ware had the best name out of the bunch, so we gave him the title. It's not the "intercontinental championship" title by any means, but it's best we could do.

You can download the track throughout the month of March from the Crustacean Records music page and the Crustacean Records myspace.

In other news we have a new Facebook page if anyone wishes to become a "fan" and be kept abreast of all the minute details of our label and the bands we are fortunate to be working with.
