Yo, supa, this (http://madison.craigslist.org/msg/150107773.html) wouldn't happen to be you trying to raise some $ for the geddy by cutting loose one of the iby's, woud it?

Nope, not me. Pretty coincidental though. Weird. That name ...

Geddy played a Rick 4001, a Wal something-or-other, a J, and probably any bass he got free as a sponsored artist. Likewise Chris Squire.

I like my 4003 cuz it does a passable impression of a P, but NOTHING else can sound like a nasty ol' Ricky!

Any opinions on the Variax modelling bass? I think the website is good for a couple of hours of fun listening to sample - not quite as impressed with the "real" thing at Ward Brat, but might be interesting to mess with at, say, a live kareoke show.

Supa, did ya buy it?
I finally went into the local GC to play a Bongo Bass, and almost bought it.

Nah. Even though I've been on a monthes-long buying frenzy somehow I abstained from getting the Geddy Lee. Part of it was that The OuttaToons played a gig with Mad Science Fair at The Slipper Club and their bass player was sporting a Geddy. I talked to him after their set and he beleagueredly said that he can't play anywhere without some bass player recognizing it. That sealed it for me. I'd also rather not deal with dorks like me going all "ga-ga for Geddy".

Instead I bought a '79 Ibanez Roadstar, black with a one-piece maple neck (the only non-rosewood fretboard in my shitty collection), for $128 + shipping. It's easily the weightiest bass I've ever hefted, built like a Jap tank. I'm taking it over to Spruce Tree for a proper setup.

Doug will love to see that walk in the door.

I'd love to have a weigh-in between my new one and maybe a Ric or a 70's P-bass. Heaviest. Bass. Ever.
