Until the dog (and you) develop some comfort, time in the small dog area is probably warranted - especially if it's small breed. But I wouldn't be too afraid if you've got a larger breed. Things happen, and it's just too much fun - and doggie psych healthy - to have the dogs socialize and play. Be cautious and aware, but too much caution is stifling. Parks are there for good dogies to have good fun.

The vast majority of dog folks are aware and conscientious, and the collective wisdom at each park is fine-tuned. In general, the regulars keep an eye on potential problems and the rogues become obvious with a well-tuned eye and some key advice.

Sycamore and Warner parks have small dog areas as well. Sycamore is relatively low on bugs right now.
You could just fill out a day pass at the gate. Those passes don't ask for any licensing information.

I obtained dog permit tags for my puppies before they had rabies shots at Mounds. Maybe the rules were different back then but a dog license wasn't required.

Dude, by no measure can that be called a dining experience!
Well I didn't proceed beyond a couple of bites, which stayed home, and the rest went it the trashcan. And as for Tutto, from what I've heard they're cooking from the same cookbook.

But back to the topic at hand, though it's surely not considered "fine dining", the restaurant that I miss most from Madison is Vientiane Palace. The curry plate and the wide noodle are damn good, especially for the price.
Best was probably several courses of tastiness at Lombardino's, or the Garlic Pork at China Palace.

Worst was as a dirt-poor college student, when I mixed the last two foodstuffs in the apartment (refried beans and canned chicken) together, and tried to eat the mix with no accompaniments. I still remember the bowl I mixed them in.
McCain has been dogged by some Vietnam veterans who were peeved by his outreach to communist Vietnam and to what they see as his capitulation on the POW/MIA issue. This group surfaced in the 2000 Republican primary race, and become active again in the 2008 primary race. They are certainly not leftists or Democrats, and they appear to have some pretty kooky ideas (sort of similar in this regard to the swiftboaters).

I don't think Obama should be involved with this at all, or give them any credibility whatsoever. You do have to wonder, though, why the media spent so much time on the swiftboat b.s., but fail to cover this b.s.

You're right about that. I should add that I only had a problem with Schumacher on one issue. I thought at first that he was a political grandstander with an eye on higher office. Since then, he's shown more substance on some other issues, so while I'm not exactly a fan, I have revised my opinion of him.
I have no idea what The Risin' is but I'm glad you enjoyed the video. You'd probably like the Pete Seeger Documentary as well. It's called The Power of Song. Being too young to know his history, it really struck me to watch him go from the top of the charts to blacklisted. Amazing story and great music throughout.
Or maybe the fenderless bicycle-commuting community (so called!). Hah, I'd never trust such a rider. Republicans win by attacking their opponent's strengths. Why Dems just concede their opponent's strength as "off limits" is anyone's guess. From most accounts, McCain has made a myth of his service that wouldn't stand up to scrutiny. (Much like most of his record.)
His use of the term "talking white" isn't racist. He was talking about the fact that Obama puts forward campaign rhetoric about helping poor people and simultaneously signals to the (predominantly white) corporate power structure - Wall St, banking, insurance, military contractors, etc - that he will be "safe" for them.

--
This is more from Nader from the same interview:

"I haven't heard him have a strong crackdown on economic exploitation in the ghettos. Payday loans, predatory lending, asbestos, lead. What's keeping him from doing that?"

--
Obama's response the following day:

"Ralph Nader hadn't been paying attention to my speeches, because all the issues that he talked about -- whether it be predatory lending, the housing foreclosure crisis . . . I've devoted multiple speeches," Obama said. "Ralph Nader is trying to get attention. I think it's a shame because if you look at his legacy in terms of consumer protections, its an extraordinary one."

--
Later that day, Nader issued the following statement:

Senator Obama said earlier today that I haven't been paying attention to his campaign.

Actually, I have.

And it's clear from Senator Obama's campaign that he is not willing to tackle the white power structure - whether in the form of the corporate power structure or many of the super-rich - who are taking advantage of 100 million low income Americans who are suffering in poverty or near poverty.

Senator Obama is opposed to single payer national health insurance.

Why?

Because he favors the health insurance giants over the millions of Americans in poverty or near poverty who are uninsured or under-insured. Eighteen thousand Americans die every year because they cannot afford health insurance, according to the Institute of Medicine.

Senator Obama wants to expand the military budget which is loaded with waste, fraud and abuse - instead of cutting it and investing the long ignored peace dividend in the inner cities with good jobs and public works - including schools, clinics, and libraries.

Why?

Because he fears and favors those thousands of lobbyists in charge of enlarging the military industrial complex that President Eisenhower warned us against.

Senator Obama says he favors a living wage. But he doesn't say he would immediately increase the minimum wage to $10 an hour, which is the equivalent of the 1968 minimum wage adjusted for inflation - because by doing so he would offend the big corporations who exploit labor in places like Wal-Mart and fast food chains. (The minimum wage needs to be increased immediately, not phased in over a number of years, as Senator Obama would have it.)

So Senator Obama, let's get specific.

We're looking for deeds, not, as Shakespeare put it, words, words, mere words.

Your public career, which I have also been paying attention to, is long on words, and short on action when it comes to consumer protection, cracking down on corporate crime, curbing the violence of toxic environmental racism, and extending clean, affordable public transit, among other issues.

For the purposes of the here and now, three things:

One, why don't you support single payer national health insurance, which is supported by a majority of doctors and the American people?

Two, why do you favor expanding the military budget which is replete with waste, fraud and abuse?

And three, why don't you come out and support an immediate increase of the minimum wage to $10 an hour?

When can we expect the authenticity of hope and change?

To these questions he also added the repeal of Taft-Hartley when he discussed this on various TV programs.

Notice that Obama didn't respond to this as a racist charge. His response was to defend his record on the substance of Nader's accusations.

I'd be happy to discuss Obama and Nader's record on these issues if you'd like. Start a thread.

Quote:

But I guess that's the prevailing attitude from typical white male dinosaurs like this guy, huh?

Fyi, Nader is Lebanese-American.
