Vinyl Cave: Battle Axe by Billion Dollar Babies
At one time, the moniker Alice Cooper referred to an entire band and not just singer Vincent Furnier, who eventually appropriated the name as part of the group's genius knack for marketing.
A Book A Week: Testimony by Anita Shreve
Why did Testimony have to be so sad? It is really heartbreaking. Well, it turns out that in Anita Shreve's world, if you commit adultery, very bad things happen to you.
MadTracks: 'The Hidden Face of Eva' by Chris Bocast
Songs like "The Hidden Face of Eva" -- a track off Chris Bocast's newest album, Stratagem, made in collaboration with the Romanian percussionist MJ Catalin -- shows that as in the case of our planet, there's much to be found beneath its outer crust.
Beer Here: Snake Hollow IPA from Potosi Brewing Company
The opening of the Potosi Brewing Company and National Brewing Museum in July 2008 marked a return to beer making that extends back to 1852, a heritage that includes well-known brews like Good Old Potosi, Holiday and Pure Malt Beer. Today, the new brewpub has a version of all three of those, but the one addition to that very old lineage is an IPA called Snake Hollow.
The Week on Forum: State symbols, fist fights, and the decline of Madison
Forons were buzzing with local happenings this week, from budding sports leagues to waste removal services and motorcycle routes. What was once a fracas appears to be, at least for now, a space to enjoy our city.

Blaska's Blog: 'Lord of the Flies'
Brian Frick, president of the Park Ridge neighborhood association, says he'd be happy to meet me for coffee if he could get a good night's sleep. The night before, an all-night party kept him awake. About 60 people were playing music, drinking in the street, smashing bottles, using drugs, and arguing.

Madame Fromage: Culture magazine
Culture, a magazine devoted to serving, making and savoring cheese, debuted last autumn, but I stumbled across an issue only recently, and now I have a new love. How I missed the first issue -- on blues, no less -- means that I must have my head in a curd vat. Clearly, I need a subscription.
Blaska's Blog is taking back the 'hood
Officer Hanson's domain consists of about 250 housing units -- and many of those are owner-occupied, single-family residences. It is a patchwork of neatly trimmed, immaculate yards next door to hard-packed bare dirt lost to the litter of empty bottles and snack food wrappers. Littering brings a $298 ticket but enforcement is difficult.
Madison Etsy explorations: Late summer sales in lean times
In a troubled economy, it is handy to have your eye out for a good deal. As any recessionista would say, looking fabulous for less isn't hard as long as you know where to look. And lucky for you, I've got my finger on the Etsy pulse.
Wilmington on DVD: Repulsion, Anita O'Day, Powell and Keeler, and Fast and Furious
Repulsion, Roman Polanski's first English-language movie, and also the first of his many collaborations with the reclusive, brilliant French screenwriter Gerard Brach, is one of the scariest films ever and also one of the great '60s black-and-white film noirs.

Basford's Spin City: Soglin and a 'weak council,' Kurt Schlicht's priorities and how Berg got to Germany
Power dynamics are more affected by political capital and the Mayor, more by virtue of his/her celebrity and how it's used than anything else, has significant capital built in.
