Light summer laughs in Hay Fever at APT
Noël Coward's Hay Fever is as light and fluffy as a cream puff. If you're looking for deep meaning or biting social critique, well, seek elsewhere. But if you're looking to laugh and enjoy a fantastic vehicle for APT core company actor Tracy Michelle Arnold, this is your show.
Uneven tone mars Broom Street Theater's folk musical Minglewood Blues
Folk music usually sits well with me. When I read the press release for Broom Street Theater's new show Minglewood Blues, based on the seminal Anthology of American Folk Music, I thought, What a clever concept!
Vinyl Cave: Memory Almost Full by Paul McCartney
As someone who grew up a decade after the band's breakup as an absolutely non-objective Beatles fan, it's tricky to evaluate the quality of Paul's new releases as they appear.
Beer Here: Tripel Nova from Ale Asylum
I'm extremely happy to learn that Tripel Nova has just become an addition to the Madison brewery's seasonally released bottled beers. Up until now, you could only get it at the brewpub in single glasses or growlers, or at festivals like the Great Taste. Four-packs started rolling off the bottling line this week, though, and have found their way to local shelves.
Radical idea for Madison’s Central Library: Use what’s there now
It's in a prime location and the structure has flexibility, architect David Lang told Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and members of the city council, calling it a "forever structure," and adding, "the greenest building is the one that's already built."

Dane County Farmers' Market: J's Veggie Patch
J's Veggie Patch is responsible for small mountains of fresh vegetables, from broccoli and cucumbers to kohlrabi and herb plants. Founded in 1853, the seventh generation family farm near Montello is now operated by Sarah and Paul McDowell, and has been a vendor at the Dane County Farmers' Market for two decades.
Raucous Decemberists carry rock's banner at Overture Center
Indie music came to the Overture Center last night -- sort of. Portland, Oregon's The Decemberists returned to Madison, playing a larger venue than they'd originally planned on, and in the process revealed themselves as shameless arena rockers.
Blaska's Blog: Generous to a fault
The liberal news media likes to talk about people coming to Madison "for a better life." And in most cases, they are walking into the welcoming arms of open-minded, liberal Madison.

No tickets for the Great Taste of the Midwest 2009?
Okay, so you are not among the 6,000 ticket holders to the Great Taste of the Midwest at Olin-Turville Park on Saturday. You can still experience some of the brews that'll be offered at the annual beer festival, though.

Wilmington on DVD: The Soloist, Elvis on Ed, screwball comedy, Race to Witch Mountain
The Soloist may sound somewhat pretentious and condescending. But the writer, Susannah Grant, director Joe Wright, and especially the two superb leading actors -- Jamie Foxx, who plays Nathaniel, and Robert Downey Jr., who plays Steve -- elevate the film.

MadTracks: 'Arcade Bully' by Droids Attack
The Who's "Pinball Wizard" is probably the most famous rock song about an arcade game, but a new track from Droids Attack, "Arcade Bully," might be the heaviest.

Paging James Monroe. He is a religious man who disdains the denominational approach that can divide religionists. That does not mean that he is non-judgmental.
