Today's image focuses upon a bear and was photographed by JonAnne Hobbs.
The dog days of summer are really bearing down on Madison now, with heat indices in the 90s, and an incipient drought. This photo shows a polar bear taking a breather from the heat at the Henry Vilas Zoo, and was taken near the zoo's southeastern entrance ("Bear Gate") on Vilas Drive, next to the future home of the Arctic Passage exhibit. The bear, named Nanuq, is one of the animals included in the zoo's Befriend-an-Animal program.
