Tuesday, June 23

The Goodman Community Center is offering a free food and recreation program for children under age 18. (Any child 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult or a sibling over the age of 10.) This is not just today; it’s Monday-Friday, June 22- August 21. The lunch, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., is for all ages (with supervised recreation from 12:30-2:30 p.m. in the gymnasium, for all ages); supper is 3:30-6:30 for kids 12 and older (with middle and high school activities available until 9 p.m.). Wednesday, June 24

As part of Downtown Works Week, it’s Madison’s Largest Coffee Break. Free Ancora coffee samples -- and if you bring in an Ancora to-go mug, you’ll get a free fill. 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Olin Terrace walkway of Monona Terrace.

More fun than home ec, better than takeout. Asian Cooking for teens with visiting chef Joel Olson, will show kids how to cook an entire Asian meal. Hands-on class, then kids can eat what they’ve cooked. Pre-register at 608-222-6127 or online via the Monona Library. 3:30-5:30 p.m., 1000 Nichols Rd., Monona.


Thursday, June 25

As part of Downtown Works Week, Isthmus and TheDailyPage.com presents Madison's #1 Happy Hour. Stop at one of your three favorite downtown Madison bars, choosing from The Great Dane Pub and Brewing Company, 123 East Doty St. (with a camera giveaway); Brocach Irish Pub, 7 W. Main St. (with an all-you-can-eat-food and drink for 8 at the Mallards Duck Blind giveaway); or Zander's Capitol Grille, 118 State St., (an American Players Theater package giveaway, including Jim DeVita -- no wait, including a picnic from Hubbard Avenue Diner). Show your support for one of these three happy hour locations from 4-7 p.m.

One of our favorite cheesemakers, Hidden Springs Creamery of Westby, Wisconsin, will be at the Willy Street Co-op with samples and info, from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. 1221 Williamson St.


Saturday, June 27

Roth Käse, speciality cheesemakers from Green County, Wisconsin, will be featured at Fromagination. Free samples of Roth Käse’s award-winning cheeses from 9 a.m.-noon. 12. S. Carroll St. 608-255-2430.

Monday June 29

Madison School Community Recreation (MSCR) offers a one-night class in “Cooking Picnic Partner Foods” tonight. Ideas from salads to desserts, plus, safety tips for foods out in the hot sun. Hands-on class. 5:30-8 p.m. at the Goodman Community Center; pre-register (608-204-3021).
