The second annual Isthmus Green Day will be held at Monona Terrace on Saturday, April 25. It is designed to help every person, no matter what his or her circumstances, become a little greener and have fun doing it.
Included in the celebration are a wide variety of informative exhibits and fun activities appealing to everyone interested in living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. Measure your carbon footprint, and mingle with friends as you make your way through many exhibitors featuring eco-friendly products and information from area businesses and non-profits.
This eco-celebration will be jam-packed with sustainable, fun activities all day long. Starting at 9 a.m. and running through 6 p.m., attendees can check out the following:
Sustainable speakers
- Dr. Nancy Selfridge, from Group Health Cooperative, will teach you how to integrate a total self-care program into your life.
- Bryan Chan, from SupraNet, will shed some light on the future of green jobs and how to start your own green business.
- Sonya Newenhouse, Founder and President of Madison Environmental Group, will discuss recycling and community outreach.
- John Ivanko and Lisa Kivirist, ecotourism authors and experts, will tell you how to eat organic on the dime.
Eco-Experts
- Jane Kuzma of Bur Oak Designs, will share easy ideas for eco-landscaping.
- Josie Pradella, the director of the Wisconsin Partners for SustainAbility and owner TerraSource Gourmet Chocolates, will tell you how one person can make a difference.
- Allan Cappelle from Upper Iowa University will talk about the latest research on the strategies and tactics to alleviate climate change.
Entertainment
- Launchpad: Rock out to several different bands throughout the day.
- Eco-Friendly Walkabout Fashion Show: Get the latest eco-stylings from Fair Indigo.
- WKOW Living Green Challenge winners: Be challenged and delighted by these interactive winning projects.
Food
- Grab a Whole Foods eco-bag and head over to their booth to sample some delicious treats.
- Learn how to cook natural, local food from Madison-area chefs.
- Feeling hungry already? Don’t worry, there will be plenty of delicious and sustainable food available in the concessions area.
Kids
- Capitol Kid’s Family Zone: Play all day long at this sustainable activity center sponsored by Capitol Kids, Madison Children’s Museum and the Aldo Leopold Nature Center.

- Metro Transit: Learn how to use the hybrid buses in Madison.
- Electric cars: Investigate the latest options available.
- Check out all that Madison has to offer for cyclists, including the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin, top-of-the-line bicycles, gear, and safe routes to school and work.
Tickets will cost $5. They can be purchased in advance at the Isthmus offices located at 101 King Street on the corner of Pinckney and Main on the Capitol Square, open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They can also be purchased at any of the five Dorn True Value Hardware located in Madison, Sun Prairie, and Oregon.

- Bus and grab a Green Day coupon/flyer from your bus. Show it at the Isthmus Green Day ticket counter for free admission.
- Bike and park your bike in the Isthmus Green Day bike valet on Olin Terrace. You will receive a bike valet sticker. Show it at the Isthmus Green Day ticket counter for free admission. Olin Terrace is directly in front of the Monona Terrace building on Wilson Street.
- Donate a clothing item to Goodwill at the event. Show your receipt at the Isthmus Green Day ticket counter for free admission. There will be a Goodwill donation truck on the corner of Wilson Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, directly in front of the Monona Terrace building.
- Children under 12 will receive free admittance.
Isthmus Green Day is planned with the input and support of an advisory group, whose members are from active community organizations. MG&E is Isthmus Green Day’s major sponsor.
