Today's image is titled "Urban lumber" and was photographed by Kristian Knutsen.
Construction crews were busy around the Capitol Square over the weekend, clearing the way for a big spring and summer season of roadwork. Err, make that sidewalk work. Many majestic old trees in the terrace between the street and inner sidewalk of the Square were cut down on Saturday afternoon along Mifflin and Carroll streets. They were removed in anticipation of the next stage of a multi-year beautification project around the Capitol. Lights, benches, the pavement, and yes, trees, are being replaced on all eight blocks of the Square, and this logging is the first stage of a long summer process.
