Today's image is titled Winter view from AOSS and was photographed by Maciej Smuga.
This photo shows a view of downtown Madison as seen from atop the Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Science Building at 1225 West Dayton Street. Shot through a fisheye lens, it captures the snow-covered surfaces of the southern end of the UW campus. One lobe of Lake Mendota is visible in the background at left, while most of Lake Monona can be seen at right. The large smokestack dominating the center of the image is that of Charter Street Heating and Cooling Plant, which is set to begin a transition from burning coal starting January 1, 2008.
